Responding to a Need

IN THE BEGINNING

Moyra Stephen, who has a son with special needs, experienced great difficulty finding qualified, in-home care for him. She discovered that this difficulty was one experienced by many other families in the community; the need for quality in-home care was a serious problem. With a background in marketing and volunteer work Moyra realized she had the skills, experience and knowledge to change that. In 1985 she founded Cardinal Nannies and Companions Inc., a decision that changed her life, the life of her son and all those families who had been searching for qualified, reliable, compassionate, in-home care-givers. Moyra and Cardinal Nannies & Caregivers Inc. continue to fill those needs, needs that today are greater than ever.

TODAY

Our society has changed drastically in a few generations.  Today’s family is, more often than not, a two-income family with both parents working outside the home and often working different hours. And there are more single parent families than ever before.

Day Care Centres are often unavailable, inconvenient, inflexible, expensive and do not provide one-on-one care. For these reasons, many families have decided that a nanny, live-in or live out, is the best solution to provide the quality care they want for their children and their entire family.

It’s also a different world for the elderly and disabled. Not only do we no longer have the extended families of a few generations ago, able and willing to care for their loved ones, but today’s seniors and those with special needs prefer to live as independently as possible for as long as possible.  They would prefer to stay in their own homes, even when some assistance is required.  Our goal at Cardinal is to provide the right level of assistance to our clients at each stage in life, to maximize their quality of life.
